Somiya vs Calendara
Written by the makers of Somiya, so we start with where Calendara is the better choice. Calendara facts are from its own website, checked 19 October 2026. Prices change — check again before you pay.
Calendara and Somiya are close to each other. Both are iPhone apps. Both turn a photo of a school flyer into calendar events. Both cost $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. If you are choosing between them, the price will not decide it. The details below will.
Choose Calendara if…
- Your calendar lives in Google. Calendara says it has two-way sync with Google Calendar and Apple Calendar. Somiya does not connect to Google directly. It writes family events into the calendar on your phone, and Google, iCloud or Outlook accounts on that phone pick them up from there.
- Your family is larger than eight people. Calendara says its price covers unlimited family members. One Somiya subscription covers up to 8.
- Paper schedules are the whole problem. Calendara is built around the photo of a flyer. Somiya reads photos too; its difference is that each task has an owner.
Choose Somiya if…
- The reminder must reach the person who has to act. In Somiya a task has an owner, and its reminder goes to that person, not only to whoever typed it.
- The family lives in more than one timezone. Each person sees an event in the timezone of their own phone, and quiet hours keep a reminder out of the middle of the night.
- You want the exit settled before you start. Export and delete are in Settings → Account. Calendara’s site does not mention an export.
- You want to know who runs the app. Somiya is run by a self-employed person in Cyprus, named in the privacy policy. Calendara’s site shows only “© 2026 Calendara” and does not say which company is behind it.

The honest summary
If you already live in Google Calendar and want the least typing, Calendara is a fair choice, and you can test it free for 7 days. If you want tasks that belong to a person, reminders in the right timezone and a clear way out, try Somiya for 14 days. Both are iPhone-only, so an Android phone in the family rules out either.
