Maple is shutting down. Here's how to get your family out.
Maple's announcement read 12 August 2026. The shutdown date is 31 December 2026.
If you organise your family in Maple, you have a deadline and a deletion. This page is what to save, in what order, and where it can go — including the half that no export will hand you. We make one app in this space and we'll say so plainly at the end, but the route below works whether or not you ever open it.
What Maple actually said
Straight from their own announcement, so you are reading the source rather than someone's summary of it:
- "Maple has been acquired by Wander."
- "Maple will sunset on December 31, 2026."
- "Your data will remain fully accessible until December 31, 2026." After that, "all data will be deleted and there will be no way to recover it."
- "Annual Maple subscriptions will no longer renew. Monthly subscriptions will remain active until December 31, 2026."
- They advise users to "export or transfer your data to other apps or services before Maple shuts down" — without naming a format or a destination.
The announcement also notes that connections to outside services — Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and TeamSnap — end with the shutdown.
The good news first: your calendar may already be safe
External calendar sync was a paid Maple feature. If you had it switched on, Maple was writing into your Google, Apple or Outlook calendar — and those events are stored in that account, not inside Maple. When Maple goes, the connection stops and nothing new arrives, but the copy sitting in your calendar today stays exactly where it is.
So the first thing to do is not an export. It's a check: open Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook and see whether your family's events are there. If they are, the urgent part of this is already done, and what's left is choosing where to organise from next.
If the sync was never on — it was behind the paid tier — then the calendar exists only inside Maple, and it is on the deletion list with everything else.
Step 1 — turn the calendar into a file you own
An .ics file is the portable form of a calendar. It is not Maple's format and not ours; it opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, a spreadsheet, or any organiser worth the name. Getting one out of the account Maple was syncing to:
- Google Calendar — Settings → Import & export → Export. You get a zip with one
.icsper calendar. - Apple Calendar (on a Mac) — select the calendar, then File → Export.
- Outlook — File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Export to a file.
Save it somewhere that isn't a phone you might drop. This file is the only version of your family's year that nobody can switch off.
Check the file before you trust it
An export that looks fine and is quietly truncated is worse than no export, because you stop worrying. Drop the file into our calendar file checker — it runs entirely in your browser, uploads nothing, and tells you how many events are really in there, how far ahead the last one sits, and how many of them repeat. Two minutes now beats discovering in March that the year stopped in January.
Step 2 — the half no export will give you
Maple's strength was never only the calendar. It was the meal planner, the recipe box, the shopping lists, the to-dos, the project folders. Their announcement tells you to export, but names no format for any of that, and we could not verify what the in-app export produces without an account we don't have. We are not going to guess on your behalf.
What we can tell you is the capture that works regardless: screenshot each list before 31 December. It is unglamorous and it is completely reliable — a picture cannot be discontinued, deprecated, or acquired. Take one per list, two or three for the long ones, and keep them with the .ics.
The screenshots are also readable. Somiya's import takes a picture of a list and reads the items back off it, works out whether it is shopping or tasks, and shows you every line before a single one is saved. Pasted text works the same way, and so does whatever file another app hands you. What it will not do is follow a link to a board somewhere: send the content, not the address.
Step 3 — decide where you're organising from in January
You have until the end of December, which sounds like plenty and is exactly the amount of time that disappears. A reasonable order:
- This week — check whether the calendar synced out, and export the
.icsif it did. - Before the holidays — screenshot the lists, recipes and notes while the app still opens.
- Whenever suits — pick the next app and import. The files keep; the deadline doesn't move.

We have not run a Maple account through its own export, so this page describes the routes we could verify — the calendar you already own in Google, Apple or Outlook, and screenshots for the rest. If you have exported from Maple and it produced something better than we've described, tell us at hello@somiya.app and we'll correct the page rather than leave it flattering.
We also can't tell you what Wander intends to do with Maple's technology, and we're not going to speculate about it. The dates and quotes above are Maple's own words; everything else on this page is a route, not a prediction.
Questions people are asking
When exactly does Maple shut down?
31 December 2026. Data stays accessible until then; after that Maple says it is deleted with no way to recover it.
Will I lose the events Maple put in my Google Calendar?
No. Those live in your Google account. The shutdown ends the connection, so nothing new syncs across, but what's already there stays.
My annual subscription stopped renewing — is that a mistake?
No. Maple says annual subscriptions no longer renew and monthly ones run until 31 December 2026.
Can I export Maple's shopping lists and recipes?
Maple names no export format for them, and we couldn't verify what the in-app export gives you. Screenshot each list — that capture works no matter what the export turns out to be.
Is there an app that reads a list off a screenshot?
Somiya does, which is why we suggest the screenshots: how switching works. You see every item it reads before anything is saved, and the whole import can be undone for 30 minutes.
What should I look for in a replacement?
Ask the awkward question first — how do I get my data out of you? An app that answers it clearly is one you can leave, which is the only real protection against being here again. Ours exports lists as CSV, the calendar as .ics, and the whole account as JSON, from Settings → Account.
