The short list
| App | Price | Platforms | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Family Sharing calendar | Free | iPhone, iPad, Mac | An all-iPhone family that needs only a shared calendar |
| Google family group calendar | Free | Android, iPhone, web | A mixed family that needs only a shared calendar |
| Cozi | Free with ads; Gold $39/year | iPhone, Android, web | Calendar plus shopping lists on every platform |
| FamilyWall | Free tier; Premium about $44.99/year for the whole circle | iPhone, Android, web | One app with calendar, lists, chat and location |
| Calendara | 7-day preview, then $4.99/month or $39.99/year | iPhone | Photo of a flyer to events, Google sync |
| Somiya (us) | $4.99/month or $39.99/year for the family ($19.99 first year) | iPhone | No ads, reminders to the right person, several timezones |
If the ads are the problem
TimeTree’s free plan is funded by advertising. Premium removes the ads for the person who pays: $4.49 a month or $44.99 a year, per account. If you want no ads and no payment, use the Apple Family Sharing calendar (iPhone only) or a Google family group calendar (iPhone and Android). Both are free and have no ads.
Don’t pick them if you used TimeTree’s comment thread on each event, or you want lists. They are calendars only.
If the per-account price is the problem
TimeTree’s pricing page lists one plan per account. Two parents on Premium is two subscriptions. Somiya and Calendara price per family. Somiya covers up to 8 people for $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. FamilyWall Premium covers the whole circle with no member limit.
If you need lists and tasks as well
Cozi has a shopping list and to-dos on every platform; its free plan shows only about a month of calendar ahead and has ads. FamilyWall adds chat, live location and more. Somiya has shared lists and tasks with owners, and the reminder goes to the person assigned.
If you need Android or a browser
Somiya and Calendara are iPhone-only today. If anyone in the family uses Android, the honest answer is Cozi, FamilyWall or a Google family group. TimeTree’s own strength is that it runs on all of them.
Before you leave TimeTree
- Look for the export. TimeTree has no export button, and its help centre says exporting events to other calendar apps is not officially supported. Community tools that produce an
.icsfile exist. They ask for your account access, so use them with care. - If you get a file, check it. Our free calendar file checker shows how many events it holds and how far ahead the last one is. The file stays in your browser.
- For a small calendar, the simplest route is to keep TimeTree running and start the new app from this month forward.
