How to move your family calendar from Cozi
Tested 27 July 2026 on a free Cozi account. Takes about five minutes and costs nothing.
Cozi has no export button. It has something else — a link — and it lives in a place most people never open. This page is the whole route, written by walking it rather than by reading someone else's summary.
Why you can't find the export in the Cozi app
Because it isn't there. The Cozi app has a screen called Manage calendars → Internet Calendar → Add another, which looks like the one you want and does the opposite: it pulls other calendars into Cozi. The way out only exists on the website.
That is worth saying plainly, because it is the part that wastes people's evening: if you are looking for your data inside the app you use every day, you will not find it, and nothing tells you to go somewhere else.
Step 1 — get the link (in a browser, not the app)
- Open my.cozi.com in a browser and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Shared Cozi Calendars.
- Tick the calendars you want.
- Choose VIEW OR SEND COZI URL and copy the link.
One link per person. Cozi's calendars are per family member, so a family of four is four links and four files. There is no single "whole family" export.
Treat that link like a password. Anyone who has it can read that calendar without signing in to anything.
Step 2 — turn the link into a file
Paste the link into your browser's address bar. If it begins with webcal://, change that to https://. Your browser downloads an .ics file. That file is your calendar, and it is yours to keep regardless of what you do next — put it somewhere safe before you cancel anything.
Check the file before you trust it
Drop the .ics files in — one per family member is the normal case, so pick them all at once. They are read in your browser: nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no account.
Two numbers in that report are worth reading before you cancel anything. How far ahead the last event sits tells you whether the export was trimmed — see the section below about Cozi's 30-day free limit. How many events repeat tells you how much of your calendar is the weekly-swimming-lesson kind, which is the part most likely to arrive differently wherever you take it.
Where you can take it: Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, or a spreadsheet
The file is an ordinary iCalendar export. It is not ours and it is not Cozi's — it opens anywhere. In Google Calendar: Settings → Import & export → Import, pick the file and choose which calendar it lands in. In Apple Calendar: File → Import, or double-click the file. In Outlook: File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Import an iCalendar (.ics) file.
If what you want is a list you can sort, filter or print rather than a calendar, use the CSV button above. Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets open it directly, and it is the fastest way to get a year of your family's commitments onto one screen.
We would rather write that down than pretend the only sensible destination is our own app. The point of an export is that your calendar stops being held anywhere — including here.
Step 3 — import it into Somiya
Open Somiya, choose Import calendar → Choose file, and pick the .ics.
Somiya shows you what it found before it changes anything: how many events are new, how many look like duplicates, how many can't be read. You decide what happens to duplicates, and you choose which family member the events belong to — that part matters, because the Cozi file carries no names inside it, only in the calendar it came from. Import each person's file and assign it to them.
If it goes wrong, there is an Undo for 30 minutes.
Step 4 — the lists Cozi won't give you
Everything above moves your calendar and nothing else. Your shopping list and your to-dos stay behind, because Cozi has no export for them at all — no file, no link, no button. That is the point where most people stop, and it is a fair reason to stop.
There is a way round it that doesn't involve retyping. Open the list in Cozi, take a screenshot, and send the picture to Somiya: Import / Export → Import from anywhere. It reads the items off the screenshot, works out whether it is shopping or tasks, and shows you every line it found before a single one is saved. Same preview, same 30-minute undo as the calendar file. Pasted text works too, and so does any file another app handed you.
What it will not do is open a link to a board or an account somewhere — nothing you send is fetched from the web. Send the content, not the address.

Two things we did not test, and won't pretend we did
Repeating events. Our test calendar had only single events, so we can't tell you yet whether a weekly swimming lesson arrives as one repeating event or as a pile of copies. If you are moving a large calendar, use the preview screen — it counts everything before anything is written.
Whether the export is trimmed. Cozi's free plan only shows about a month ahead. We could not find out whether that limit also trims the exported link for someone whose calendar holds a full year, because on a free account you cannot create an event that far out to test with. So: if you have been paying for Cozi Gold, download the file and look at the last dates in it before you cancel. That is the honest answer, and it is the one we would want.
Questions people ask
Can I export my Cozi calendar without paying for Gold?
Yes. The shared-calendar link on my.cozi.com was available on the free plan when we tested this on 27 July 2026, with no upgrade prompt.
Is there an export button in the Cozi app?
No. The outbound link exists only on the website. The app's Internet Calendar screen adds outside calendars into Cozi.
Does Cozi give me a file or a link?
A link — an iCal feed. Open it over https:// and your browser saves it as an .ics file.
Can I export my Cozi calendar to Google Calendar?
Yes, and you don't need us for it. Get the file with steps 1 and 2 above, then in Google Calendar go to Settings → Import & export → Import, pick the file, and choose the calendar it should land in. Apple Calendar and Outlook both import the same file.
Can I export Cozi to Excel?
Not directly — Cozi gives you a calendar feed, not a spreadsheet. Drop the .ics into the checker above and use Download as CSV; that opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets with one row per event.
Can you export Cozi recipes and shopping lists?
No. The Cozi link is calendar-only — recipes, shopping lists and to-dos are not in it, and there is no separate export for them. That is a real limit of Cozi and worth knowing before you cancel. You don't have to retype the lists, though: screenshot each one and send the picture to Somiya's format-free import, which reads the items straight off it. Recipes are the exception — Somiya has nowhere to put them, so those genuinely need copying somewhere by hand.
How do I move my Cozi shopping list without an export?
Screenshot it. There is no file to get, so the picture is the export: open the list in Cozi, screenshot it, and send that to a receiving app that can read a list off an image — in Somiya that is Import / Export → Import from anywhere. You see every item it read before anything is saved, and you can undo the whole thing for 30 minutes. Long lists take two or three screenshots.
Do I need a separate file for each family member?
Yes. Cozi's calendars are per person, so each member is a separate link and a separate import.
Will my old events come too?
Yes. Our test file included an event 82 days in the past and it imported normally.
Does importing overwrite what's already in my calendar?
No. You see a preview first, you choose how duplicates are handled, and you can undo for 30 minutes.
Does Cozi's 30-day free limit affect the export?
We don't know, and we would rather say so than guess. See the section above for how to check it yourself in under a minute.
