A free family calendar exists on every platform. The question is what the free plan costs in another form: ads, a limit, a missing feature, or your data. This page lists what each one holds back.
The free options
| App | Free plan | What it costs you | Platforms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Family Sharing calendar | Free, no ads | Apple devices only. A calendar only. | iPhone, iPad, Mac |
| Google family group calendar | Free, no ads | A calendar only; no shared tasks with an owner. | Android, iPhone, web |
| TimeTree | Free, with ads | Ads in the calendar. No lists. No export button. | iPhone, Android, web |
| Cozi | Free, with ads | The calendar shows only about a month ahead. Gold ($39/year) removes the limit. | iPhone, Android, web |
| FamilyWall | Free tier | Some features need Premium (about $44.99/year for the circle). | iPhone, Android, web |
| Nori | Free | Plus is $7.99/month or $59.99/year for more. | iPhone |
Which free plan fits which family
- Everyone has an iPhone and you need only a calendar: the Apple Family Sharing calendar. No ads, no account to make, nothing to pay.
- Android and iPhone in one family: a Google family group calendar, or TimeTree if you accept ads. Cozi vs Google Calendar →
- You want a shopping list as well: Cozi free works, but you see ads, and the calendar stops about a month ahead.
- You want chat and location: FamilyWall’s free tier, knowing that more features sit behind Premium.
When paying is worth it
Pay when the free plan fails at the thing you bought the app for. A calendar that stops a month ahead does not help a family that books a school year. An ad in the middle of the week costs attention. A calendar with no owner for a task means the reminder goes to the person who typed it, not to the person who has to act.
Somiya has no free plan. It has a 14-day trial with no card, then $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year for up to 8 people ($19.99 for the first year), with no ads on any plan. It is iPhone-only today. If you need it free, use one of the calendars above.
